Green claims check under the Empowering Consumers Directive
Directive (EU) 2024/825 on empowering consumers for the green transition amends the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive. Its rules apply from 27 September 2026. Spain is still transposing it, but the EU-level prohibitions are now the reference for authorities and competitors.
What becomes risky
- Generic environmental claims such as "eco", "green", "sustainable" or "environmentally friendly" without recognised excellent environmental performance.
- Sustainability labels not based on a certification scheme or set up by a public authority.
- Claims of neutral or reduced impact based on offsetting greenhouse gas emissions.
- Claims about the whole product or business when the benefit concerns only one part.
What we deliver
- Scan — your website, store and product catalogue checked for environmental wording, labels and badges.
- Risk list — each claim flagged with the rule it may breach and the evidence it would need.
- Rewrites — accurate alternative wording, per page or per product, in English, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese (中文服务).
- Monitoring — new products and pages checked as you publish them.
We flag risks and propose wording; we do not issue legal opinions.
