Data portability and user migration for platforms

Marketplaces, SaaS products and service platforms win users faster when people can bring their listings, reviews and history with them. EU law gives users the tools; the platform has to make them easy and lawful.

The legal routes

• GDPR Articles 15 and 20 — users can request a copy of their data and receive what they provided in a structured, machine-readable format. A Dutch appeal court held in 2023 that PDF does not meet that standard.
• Digital Markets Act Article 6(9) and 6(10) — gatekeepers such as Google, Meta, Amazon, LinkedIn and Booking offer portability APIs for users and business users.
• Official owner APIs — for example Google Business Profile reviews and eBay seller feedback.
• Consumer law on reviews — imported ratings must show their source, date and how they were verified, and must not be mixed with your own ratings.

What we build

1. Request assistant — prefilled access and portability requests in several languages, with deadline tracking.
2. Archive importer — users upload the export they receive, and their listings and reviews become drafts on your platform.
3. Profile verification — users prove they own a profile elsewhere before its reputation is shown, with the source clearly labelled.
4. API connectors — official integrations where a platform offers them.

We build on user-initiated transfers and official interfaces only, never on scraping other people's data.
