What changes on 2 August 2026 for a normal business website?
Four transparency duties switch on: chatbots must say they're AI, deepfakes must be visibly labeled, AI-generated public text must be tagged (unless genuinely human-reviewed), and emotion/biometric system use must be disclosed. Fines up to €15M or 3% of turnover go live with them.
August 2 in one table
| If your site has… | You must… |
|---|---|
| Chatbot / AI assistant | Disclose it's AI, at first contact |
| AI-generated or edited realistic media | Visible label on each piece |
| AI-written public-interest articles | AI label, or documented human editorial review |
| Emotion/biometric recognition | Inform the people subjected to it |
What does NOT change
- No registration, no certification, no audits for normal websites.
- No high-risk obligations (those moved to 2027/2028).
- No ban on any of these tools — just honesty about using them.
